Liu Wen Ad Campaign for Converse by John Varvatos, Spring 2009

This is Liu Wen's 6th ad campaign for the season. She is in ck one, Benetton, DKNY Jeans, DvF, Barneys New York, and now Converse by John Varvatos. Coupled with her 73 appearances on the runways of NY, London, Milan and Paris this season, Liu Wen is the undisputed queen of the season.

Incidentally, Converse was an inexpensive sneaker/shoe brand that was popular way back in the late-1970s to early-1980's. A couple seasons ago, Converse retained John Varvatos, a NY-based men's wear designer, to create a premium clothing line for the brand. Now the collection is available at top departmental stores across the country selling at price tags reaching the mid-hundreds.

mid-hundreds Converse? that's crazy!

I saw this ad in a magazine and couldn't recognize Liu Wen, but she looks amazing anyway. 73 shows is record high for an asian, and it would be great if she gets campaigns or people would start seeing her as a runway filler.

I checked the Converse by John Varvatos website and a leather jackets retails for about $950. Even a simple cotton hoodie zip-up sweater is $195. WAY overpriced, if you asked me.

I saw and touched the collection at Bloomingdales SoHo a couple months ago and almost every piece has a "distressed/deconstructed" look.

she looks great but this converse and get chucked marketing is too "cool" and gimicky for me.

Marilyn is handling her career not as exclusive as I would hope. Campaigns for Benneton and converse? ughh. This may hurt her chances for a major campaign in the future.

I'm really glad for Liu Wen, considering that Converse is an American brand. she looks really good in this ad, it's an amazing ad!
